Shutdown Notice
romhandbook.com was started many years ago, back when the best resource we had for ROM EL was romcodex.com, but the site hadn't been updated in a long time. I got a lot of help from people in the community to reverse engineer the game and build this website.
Unfortunately, running the site isn’t free. Most of the time, I’ve been covering the server costs myself, which is around $10–$20/month. It’s not a huge amount, but it’s definitely not free either. Patreon and Google Ads helped a bit, but not much. People come and go, and most people use ad blockers anyway.
The best option I tried was launching a snap bot service (again, with help from others). It’s not perfect, but it was good enough. That said, it still takes up a lot of my time to keep the site going. The money is enough to cover costs now, but nothing that’ll make me rich. I’ve only been doing this to keep the site alive, not to make money.
Unfortunately, I no longer actively playing the game. So maintaing the website is no longer fun for me. And I value my time more than money. With that being said, I will shut down the snap bot service by the end of 30th June 2025. I'll try to keep the website alive as much as possible, but I won't be able to actively maintain it anymore. I might shut it down too, or I might not. No real promises for now.
Thanks for everyone who has supported me to maintain romhandbook.com so far. I'm sorry for the inconvenience caused but all good or bad things must end.
F.A.Q
Q: Will you open source the website?
A: No plan so far.
Q: Why not hire someone to maintain the site?
A: Maybe. No plan so far. I still need to get involved somehow. Again, I just value my time more for now.
Q: I've already paid for the snap bot. Are you trying to scam me?
A: Nice try, but no. Although I mentioned there's no refund policy here, I'm not trying to get rich here. I can't refund you 100% because each payment has a free. But I'll do my best to refund each payment.
Q: Any alternative to the snap bot?
A: You can always use https://snap.poring.life. But do note that you are also supporting their ROM bot service https://xkromui.com too. It's from the same owner. It's an open secret anyway. ps: ROM whales rather pay hundreds of dollar for the bot, but pay zero for helping to maintain romhandbook.com which I found rather disheartening. Oh well.
Q: Why not contact ROM company, XD directly to collaborate with them?
A: I did. I forgot the exact amount, but they did gave me some BCC. Just one time though. They don't seems to be interested in maintaing the website.
Q: What about Patreon?
A: I'm keeping it open for now. But if the site is shutting down for good, I'll close it down. Until then, I'll be using Patreon primarily to support the cost of the server.
